Welcome to Opening Gaits

Our mission is to provide children and adults with disabilities the opportunity to experience all the physical, social, and emotional benefits of riding on and spending time with a horse.

Who We Are

Opening Gaits is a charitable society founded by a diverse group of business, professional, and other Calgarians who are united in a passion for horses and a commitment to serve the community.

Our objective is to provide therapeutic riding in an exciting, fun and challenging environment for children and adults with disabilities, allowing them to develop physically, socially and emotionally. Our programs are delivered by instructors who are equine and/or therapeutically trained. We service Calgary, Okotoks and the M.D. of Foothills.

There is a meet and greet with Amber Marshall & cast from the popular series “Heartland” at Amber’s store “Marshall’s country store” in Turner Valley on May 25th 12-4pm. All proceeds will be donated to Opening Gaits.

Session 4 completes at the end of April 2024, thank you to all our participants, volunteers, caregivers, & instructors for making it a huge success and always fun!

If you wish to join our program in the fall of 2024  (We break for the summer months) please download the registration forms, complete them in full and send them to openinggaitssociety@gmail.com. We run four sessions between Sept and May for 6 weeks per session.  The cost per session is $300.00, once confirmation of acceptance into the program is granted, full payment will be required 14 days before the start of the session.  A waitlist will be available and Opening Gaits will contact you in August to finalize dates & availability. If Opening Gaits has to reschedule a class due to inclimate weather or sickness, an alternate date will be offered, but no refunds will be granted. Thank you and see you in the fall!
